The Real Estate Company’s website faced a number of issues. First, the website was not mobile friendly. Next, the website was “hard-coded” on top of a content management system. This made it impossible for the client to update their own menus and content. The built-in content management systems tools were bypassed without having a developer. Most importantly, it lacked the main feature real estate websites are expected to have – the ability to search home listings.
Flywheel Website Hosting
The Real Estate Company’s original website was hosted at Bluehost. While Bluehost is unbelievably advertised as recommended by WordPress, it’s a typical unmanaged, economy hosting platform. Economy hosting platforms use shared resources and require end-users to install and manage common tools needed for WordPress performance and security enhancements. Bluehost’s parent company has acquired 80+ low cost, economy hosts including Hostmonster, Hostgator, iPowerweb. Offshore support has led to support quality falling significantly. Spokencode migrated the website from Bluehost to Flywheel managed WordPress hosting for better performance, security and support.
Spokencode created a mobile-friendly, search engine optimized and performance optimized website design. Showcase IDX, the leading IDX plugin for WordPress, was integrated to give the ability to search local multiple listing services. Furthermore, ShowcaseIDX allows home buyers to create a free account to save, share and discuss home listings with friends, family and real estate agents.
Search Engine Optimization
Current home listings are constantly changing and don’t make for great, long-lasting SEO. Also, home searches are very local by their nature. To improve their SEO, we created a local Atlanta “Neighborhoods” top-level page linked to each neighborhood’s own page. Each neighborhood page has neighborhood specific information including history, schools, civic organizations and current listings.
Social Media Marketing
Real estate agents are experts in their local markets. Spokencode emphasized their local expertise with social content that was relevant and optimized for each specific platform.
Facebook is used to share page URLs. Spokencode made sure each page used and explicitly set Open Graph tags.
Spokencode created “trivia” content for local Atlanta landmarks and history that reinforced their local expertise. Posts were designed using before/after, then/now, A/B comparison techniques that made social engagement easy.
